Short Reviews: ttttttttttttttttttttttttt, KASMs, Antlers, Rainbow Arabia

More Short, Sharp, slaps of attempted journalistic wit. Currently I’ve too much stuff to review and too little time to listen to it all. Now I’m closing in on getting that second job in the bag it’s just gonna get worse. So here’s a load of stuff I’ve been listening to that hasn’t made the cut to ‘full review territory’ although some of it probably deserves it. Hopefully we’ll have some real gems coming along soon (reviews of so many dynamos and calories albums), and maybe another mix tape, something for these delightful summer days. Enjoy!

ttttttttttttttttttttt - ttttttttttttttttttttt

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Like a washing machine and a tumble dryer having a fight in an old meat house……no holds barred! To the sounds of a spectrum cassette loading whilst someone empties an industrial dishwasher full of cutlery into an old, rusty, disused oil drum. It’s certainly not bedtime music.

Score: 6.7/10

KASMs – Spayed

If Art punk was around in the nineties it would have sounded like this. Imagine if Sleeper reformed and took a stab at fitting into today’s alternative music world, they probably would off written something like ‘Spayed’. KASMs feature Rory Blackwell previous of Test Icicles fame, and you can hear his influence on here. I like it, I like it a lot. I always thought Boa vs Python would have sounded better with female vocals, well maybe not always, but now I do.

Score: 7.8/10

Antlers – Hospice

‘Hospice’ could well be an amazing album, however we won’t know for a while because I can’t stop listening to ‘Sylvia’. My word this track is a perfect ‘slowcore/shoegaze’ pop song. Unfortunetly it seems to be this albums downfall as I can’t stop skipping back. Hopefully I’ll be able to fight through this and give you a proper review soon. So if anything download it just for that one song, it has it all, the soft moving verses, powerful drums and a heart wrenching, chorus with horns! Perfect. From what I’ve heard so far the rest of the album is pretty good too, just not as instant. Like a happy, well not happy, but perhaps a slightly less depressed ‘Grouper’

Score: 7/10 (Sylvia = 10/10)

Rainbow Arabia – Basta EP

Similar to ‘Coconot’ but with less of carnival sound and more of an Arabian feel. What is it with all these ethnic music styles creeping into rock music, its enough to make Noel Gallagher join the BNP (If he isn’t already, who knows?) The vocals are Siouxsie-esque and the music is like a middle eastern ‘Gang Gang Dance’. I’d like to assume all Lebanese clubs have music playing like this whilst beautiful women fight against oppression with dance moves that could undress you off all your moral standings with one swift thrust of their hips. Sadly this probably isn’t the case, but won’t stop it being the dream.

Score: 9.3/10
